OKONOMIYAKI COOKING CLASS

This is the recommended Japanese cooking beginner class you will enjoy taking. This is one of the top dishes that my guests who visited Japan loved eating while they traveled many places in Japan. Accessible ingredients and cooking tools, cooking skills are beginner. But we will learn one of the most important umami ingredient is bonito flakes, it is a smoked bonito fish and grated into flakes. And, the sauce for this dish is very unique, we will make it using accessible ingredients in your pantry. A bit of background of this dish, this style of savory pancake is originally from Osaka. Osaka is the second largest city in Japan, and the food culture is known as reasonable and delicious. I hope this dish is going to be a staple menu after taking this class!

Class menu:

  • Okonomiyaki, Osaka style savory pancake with cabbage and pork 
  • Easy black sesame ice cream

Ingredients Required:

The most required ingredients for this class are bonito flakes for non-vegetarian, and dried shiitake or porcini mushrooms for the vegan version.

Okonomiyaki
Bonito flakes
Cabbages a couple of leaves
Spring onion
One egg
A couple of slices of pork belly 
Green part of spring onion

Optional: shrimp

Seasonings
Ketchup
Worcestershire sauce
Oyster sauce or soy sauce, sugar
Oil
Soy Sauce
Sake
Sugar
Mayonnaise, ideally Kewpie mayo 😉

Black sesame ice cream
Your favorite vanilla ice cream
Black sesame seeds

Cooking tools required:

A small to medium size frying pan
A couple of bowls, ladle, spatula, and spoons
Chopping board and knife
Mortar and pestle if not a ziplock and rolling pin or wine bottle

Pricing:

Class prices are based on the number of kitchens/devices joining:

  • 1 Kitchen: for you or your friends or family joining from a single device – Price: ¥1500 for a single device
  • 2 Kitchens or more: for you and your friends or family joining from 2 or more devices – Price: ¥1500 per device

So, if you are a family or friends in a single location, joining with a single computer or other device, you pay ¥1500 for a single device.
If you are 2 or more users, in different locations, with their own devices, each device joining the class pays ¥1500.

* If you are booking for 2 kitchens/devices, or more and will be paying separately, please be sure the other guests planning to join the class book their spots immediately so we can confirm the reservations and close the class.
